Gold Angel of Henry VII (obverse)

This gold Angel of Henry VII was minted between 1502 and 1504. It was worth six shillings and eight pence, or a third of a pound - but was equivalent to about £100, in real terms, today! Shown above is the obverse, with St. Michael spearing a dragon. The reverse of the coin shows a ship, with prominent shield and cross. Photograph courtesy of Vale Coins.
