Bexley Coin Club's Fortieth Anniversary by Anthony Gilbert
The Anglo-Irish Coinage of Elizabeth I, by Chris Comber. Chris is one of the leading experts on Elizabethan coinage, and this was first given as a presentation to the British Numismatic Society in March 1999. It should be of interest to even the most advanced of researchers and collectors. Note that this is a long paper with several photographs in the text, and may take longer to load than usual.
Carl Becker (1772-1830), Master Forger, by Ken Peters. This first appeared in the spring 1999 edition of the Counterfeit Coin Club journal. If you are interested in this area of numismatics, Ken - the current President - can be contacted through us.
The Inscriptions on Nuremburg Jetons, by Jim Furner. Jim has been a member of the club for many years, and Jetons are a particular interest of his.
Both Sides of the Coin - the Introduction of the Euro and the Future of Cash, by Anthony Gilbert. Tony is our club secretary, and this article is based on a club discussion evening held on 5th July 1999. Events have moved on apace since then as the euro has steadily weakened against the US dollar and pound sterling, but the basic principles and points still hold good in the long term.
Both Sides of the Coin - a Reply, by David Sealy. Although not a member of the Bexley Coin Club, David is a well-known and distinguished numismatist who is a good friend to us. His interesting reply to Tony's article is a considered and very personal view.
Numismatic Societies and the Internet, by Adrian Nicholl. This article is a brief guide to those thinking of setting up their own club web site. It first appeared in the January 2000 edition of the CCNB Newsletter, and is reproduced here in full.
Some Thoughts on Coin Collecting, by Roy Ladell. Roy has been a member of the club for decades, and is our long-standing President. His diverse collecting interests form the basis of this short article written with the beginner in mind.
The "Gun Money" of James II, by Stan. Another long-standing member of the club, Stan has been interested in gun money for years. This short article provides an interesting introduction to the series, and includes some high quality photographs.
Jettons - Reckoning Counters, by Phil Mernick, and London School Attendance Medals, by Harold Mernick. Phil is a long standing member of the Club, as well as a well-known numismatist, specialising in tokens. As well as his involvement with the Bexley Coin Club, he is Secretary of BANS, and President of the London Numismatic Club. Harold, his brother, is a member of more recent standing, but has had an interest in numismatics for many years. Please note that these are external links to their own site, and will therefore open in a new window.
Organisational Numismatics and its Future - Declining or Virtual, by Anthony Gilbert. Another discussion-type article by Tony, our club secretary. He is well known and respected in the numismatic world, not least for his opinions - some of which are to be read here!
